Reflections for CHINATOWN TRIP.
Goh Hui Ting (05):
I feel that this Chinatown trip is quite a fruitful one. I've actually learned and gained a lot of things there. Firstly, I think this trip had bond me and my group members well although one of them was unable to attend. For example, throughout the trip, I can say that we are together almost all the time and we also did not quarrel. In fact, we've actually cracked some jokes along the whole trip. Beside, I also learned to be more daring. I would say so is because as we were conducting the survey, we would've to ask some strangers and we even took photographs together with them. As we were conducting the survey, I've finally understand how does a person who's conducting the survey will feel when they get rejected - the feeling isn't very nice. In conclusion, I think that I won't really mind to have such 'excursion' or trip again as I think this trip is quite fun and enjoyable. Most importantly, I think that this can really bond classmates together. Xinmin (06): I got to interact with the people there and know if our product for IPW will help the public through the survey. The people there are kind and I learned quite a lot of things there, like communicating with people whom I am not familiar with. I would like to take part in this again if given a chance to. Katherine (07): The trip to Chinatown was not very smooth as some people did not want to do the survey but we completed everything. In conclusion, it was a memorable experience. Khalisah (08): The survey that our group was doing at Chinatown was fun. Although my group separated so that we would get more people, Yang Hui and I only got to survey 5 people and the others the boys do. I approached a lot of people but they just walked away and doesn't know how to speak english. It was pretty hard then. I enjoyed the experience. Guiru (09): We asked a few people to answer the survey and most of the people who answered were tourists. I realised that many singaporeans do not like doing surveys. I feel that the trip was meaningful and fun. Sylvia (10): I felt scared at first because my esteem is low and I do not know how to approach strangers whom I don't know. But when we reached there, I found out that the tourists are friendly and they're easy to approach. The people we approached were mostly the Americans and some even told us about other things such as their childhoods. That builded my confidence and I became independent, to ask strangers on my own. I learned that team mates should be cooperative and there should be teamwork. I'm also glad that I learned how to approach others. Maizuriah (12): I have learned that when doing a survey, you have to get ready for different challenges. Some people may spare some time but some will just shake their heads or hands and just walk away; you have to get ready for rejection even though it may be discouraging being rejected. I have also learned that we cannot satisfy everybody. Sometimes they will not be able to accept your product thinking that it may not be useful to anybody but we have to accept this and also improve our product through this. I still feel glad that most of the people that we approached are supportive and were able to spare some time but there were also those who rejected us. I also feel satisfied that the people were able to give good opinions and not just answering a Yes or No. Kah Ming (15): It was fun and tiring. We had to ask people to help us do survey but as the venue was Chinatown, people there were mostly Chineses and the tourists. Even though I'm a Chinese, I found difficulties translating for the people to understand. My partner, Maizuriah, helped me a lot during the survey. Xinting (17): Going Chinatown to do survey is a good experience. This trip makes me improve my communication skills and know how to communicate with different people. This trip also taught me how to conduct a sruvey by asking people around for their opinions and I have learned that different people have different thoughts. This trip bonded our group and this trip is a very good experience for us. Rasyiqah (18): During the Chinatown trip, there were some difficulties which my group encountered. In some cases, the foreigners who were visiting Chinatown didn't seem to understand our English much. Either they were not used to Singapore's way of talking or they did not understand English. There were mostly chinese people so I did not do much surveying which made the trip quite boring. However, with my group members I still had an enjoyable experience. It was also a memorable one being able to communicate with the people there. Yang Hui (19): The CIP trup to Chinatown was fun and exciting. I got to experience conducting surverys with different people. Some were friendly but some preferred to keep to themselves. Luckily, most of them knew how to speak English, if not it would've been very troublesome for me and my partner. A few rudely refused to our requests even though we had asked them very politely. I feel that this type of behaviour is especially intolerable for us. However, we do not blame them as we understand their plight. Aronn (24): This trip to Chinatown was a fun one. We went there to conduct the survey with the elderly. The interviews were smooth and we managed to finish interviewing in time and finished writing all the papers. Most of the ones we approached were not very cooperative but we still managed to finish up the work. Zhen Hong (25): I feel that the trip was successful as my group had done quite a lot of surveys but some did reject doing our survey. The trip was also enjoyable, to be able to go to Chinatown to conduct surveys. Chun Kit (26): Going to Chinatown and conducting surveys there is the most exciting and meaningful experience. By going there and asking around with different languages actually allowed me to learn more and communicate using other languages. Going out to study is always better than learning things in school as we would be exposed to more things outside rather than just keep studying 'deadly' in school. Adrian (27): The CIP Chinatown trup was a fun learning experience. I got to chat with my group of friends while walking around and asking people to do survey. Some people are willing to do the survey but some others (in fact quite a lot) did not want to do it. Some people didn't even replied us when we tried to consult them. However some people we interviewed were very friendly, especially one stall owner who was very willing to do our survey, and she even told us how to consult others. It was a trip I learned some interviewing skills. Haziq (28): Doing the survey was much better than I expected. More than half the people we approached did the survey. Some of the people we approached were in a hurry so we quickly went through the survey with them. A learning point was how to attract the attention of people to do the survey. It turned out to be a fun experience communicating with the people there. Ivan (29): I am happy to go to Chinatown as I can interview people and see whether they like the product my grp intends to make, a product that will make user's life easier. After interviewing all the people there, I feel that not a lot of people are willing to do the survey. Bt I was glad tht all of 'em liked the product my grp's making. I lrned hw to improve my interviewing skills & I'm very happy. Javier (30): During the chinatown trip, I encountered many foreigners & locals. It was exciting and scary because we were a little scared that the foreigners will not understand us. We surveyed the stall owners there as well. I hope tht we'll hve more opportunities like that. Haikel (31): The Chinatown trip was enjoyable. We got to talk to strangers & conduct surveys with 'em. Some gave great responses, some did not. Bt overall, it was very fun as we got to go out on a learning journey with our team. Yongcheng (31): It was really tough for me to speak to strangers as I've nvr done these sort of stuffs b4. I was actually excited at the start bt sumhw whn I saw the shoppers thr, I started to hesistate. Whn I was askng, I hve to do things rlly fast as shoppers prefer to get things done quickly. I also hve to make sure tht they dun misunderstand me. That was rlly difficult as I think I didnt do a good job explaining. I actually felt very satisfied @ the end of the session. Though it wasnt sumthing worthed to be proud of, I'm pleased I actually dared to confront strangers. I learned quite a few stuffs aft the session. 1st, I learned tht I hve to speak up so tht ppl can notice us. The need to explain things clearly to ppl so tht they understand was also one of the stuffs I learned. Time management was also essential since both the person being interviewed, and myself didnt have much time to spare. Lastly, I also learned hw to think out of the box 'cause whn you dont know hw to translate things, you hve to think of smething else to explain ON THE SPOT. Jasper (33): I think tht the chinatwn trip was enjoyable & meaningful. I think it was quite fun asking ppl to do survey with my friends. I also learned tht we must work as a team & cooperate with my team members. It also gave me a chance to allow me to talk to strangers. Overall I think the trip''s fun and meaningful. Mike (35): It was an interesting activity & the interview helped my grp a lot on whr and hw to improve our products. Jun Kai (38): It was a fruitful experience @ Chinatown for me & my friends. It was my 1st time conducting surveys & I'm glad tht I had participated in this event. I hope we cld do mre surveying in the future so tht we cld do better in processing our products for IPW. Edinburgh (39): I think tht the trip to Chinatown was useful 'cause we learned abt hw ppl think our product is. We knw hw to improve on it & make our product better. We also knw wht ppl want. Boxin (41): I think tht the trip to chinatwn was fun. Though my grp was short of 2 ppl, we still did 20 pieces of survey. My grp faced a weird old uncle and we asked him to do the survey for us. But instead, he told us wht to do whn we create our product. He wasted abt 15 mins of our time. I knw this is rude to call tht uncle weird but I rlly cnnt stand it. We had some difficulties getting ppl to do the survey as most of them dont understand english. Kuang Xiang (42): I feel tht the chinatwn trip was very fun. It enabled me to communicate better with the strangers while we're conducting the surveys. This trip's memorable and exciting. I hope tht there'll be more of these trips in future. SORRRRRY. Cut short most of the words of last fews. Lack of time. **Those not inside: either syf or didn't write. BAIIZZZZZ. *HANDS PAIN. TYPED FOR 2 HRS*
